The longtime Rojiblanco defender has closed out a deal to become Cruz Azul's new star signing.Mexican club Cruz Azul announced via Twitter that it has signed Colombian international defender Luis Perea pending a physical exam.
Perea, 33, had previously played for Atletico Madrid, plying his trade for the Colchoneros since 2004. The former Boca Juniors defender is also a current Colombia defender, earning 62 caps for the South American nation since his international debut in 2003.
Primarily a center back, Perea also played right back and even wing back for Atletico over his eight-year tenure. He won the Europa League twice with the Spanish side, in 2008-09 and 2011-12.
With Colombia, he was on the team in the 2007 and 2011 Copa America, as well as the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Cruz Azul made the previously rumored signing public by stating that Perea, as well as Argentine striker Mariano Pavone, would arrive "in the following weeks" to fulfill standard physical exams prior to stamping their signatures on contracts.
Perea debuted for Independiente Medellin in 2000 before moving on Argentina powerhouse Boca Juniors three years later.
