Guillermo Ochoa's debut season in European football has been further sweetened thanks to Ajaccio supporters voting him the Corsican side's player of the year.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper was instrumental in avoiding relegation for the Ligue 1 side which had barely achieved promotion the year before.
With 22 percent of the vote, Ochoa edged out his fellow teammates in the fan selection, becoming the team's very first player of the year in its most recent Ligue 1 era.
Ajaccio finished 16th in the French championship and avoided the drop with 41 points, just three more than Caen, which lost its Ligue 1 status.
Despite allowing 61 goals over the course of the season, the Corsicans were applauded for signing the Mexican international, and following the successful campaign, press singled out Ochoa as being crucial to the team's survival.
