Giovani dos Santos: Wonder goal against Brazil was intentional

The Mexican forward denied his goal against Brazil was not a fluke, confirming his intention to chip Rafael.
Giovani dos Santos scored what is already being hailed as one of the best goals in Mexican national team history, a stunning chip that fooled Brazil goalkeeper Rafael and thrilled the record-setting crowd in attendance at Cowboys Stadium.

"I've been asked several times now," Dos Santos said with a smile. "Yes, it was intentional. I saw that 'Chicharito' was open in the middle, I attempted the shot that way and thank God it came out a goal," he continued.

The goal opened up the match in Texas, pushing Mexico on to a 2-0 victory against Brazil, a country he could have represented thanks to his ancestry on his father's side.

"No, I'm 100 percent Mexican," said Dos Santos after the match. "It's special to play against Brazil because I have friends and family there, my dad is Brazilian and to me it will always be a special duel."

Dos Santos used the goal to send yet another message to Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp, who has kept the forward mainly on the bench since taking over for Juande Ramos several seasons ago.

"I've never doubted of my capabilities, I think that even though my manager [at Tottenham] doesn't have trust in me or didn't have trust in me, I've always been training at 100 percent," he said.

Mexico will face Guyana to begin its road to the 2014 FIFA World Cup with a home opener in Mexico City.
