Santos 1-0 Jaguares: Late Penalty Seals Santos' Win

Santos advance to the semifinals where they'll meet America.

Santos scored on a late penalty kick and beat Jaguares 1-0 on Sunday and advanced to the league semifinals on the strength of their 2-1 aggregate victory.

Neither side came out with marksmanship. While the teams did enough to get the ball in dangerous positions, the finishing was poor and shots were off-target or right at the respective 'keepers.

The stalemate favored Santos, though, and as the game wore on the hosts were increasingly more satisfied with a nil-nil outcome.

Santos had the series all but wrapped up in the 90th minute when Omar Flores took down Oribe Peralta inside the box. Flores chopped Peralta down from behind and was immediately booked.

Santos' Juan Pablo Rodriguez took the penalty kick and ensured the home fans would have a goal to celebrate as he buried the attempt into the back of the net.
