New Fulham manager Mark Hughes is hoping to conclude a deal to sign full-back Carlos Salcido from PSV Eindhoven.

Speaking after his team's impressive 6-0 win over Port Vale in the League Cup, Hughes stressed the need to add some more quality to his squad.

"We're looking to obviously add to the quality we undoubtedly have," he told Sky Sports News.

"If we can conclude deals right up to the window then that's what we'll look to do."

Hughes also admitted that the club have made an enquiry for Mexican international Salcido, and was hopeful of concluding a deal before the end of the transfer window.

"We've enquired, obviously, about Salcido and hopefully we will get that one over the line," he added.

"He is a player that I think will help us in terms of his flexibility and his ability to play a number of positions.

"That's important for us and hopefully we can conclude that one."

With 77 caps for his country, Salcido would add some much needed experience to the Fulham defence, especially with speculation suggesting Liverpool are set to make a move for Paul Konchesky.

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson admitted that he was keen to bring the defender to Anfield, but Hughes insists that even if the club can conclude a deal for Salcido, it doesn't necessarily mean Konchesky will then leave.

"We are looking to have quality in all positions. Left-back is a position we are a little light in," he continued.

"It is not a foregone conclusion that Paul Konchesky goes because we are looking to bring someone else in."
