Jonathan Dos Santos' exclusion from Mexico's World Cup roster has had an effect on older brother Giovani, their father insisted.

After receiving news that his brother Jonathan would not be part of Mexico's World Cup roster, Giovani Dos Santos lost his desire to play for El Tricolor.

According to Dos Santos' father Zizinho, 'Gio' no longer wants to play against South Africa, France or Uruguay in two weeks' time. 'Jona' was excluded from Mexico's World Cup team on Monday. The Mexican Football Federation announced the Barcelona-based youngster was the final cut ahead of the World Cup as Mexico finalized their World Cup roster.

Jona's exclusion stung Giovani, who is considered a likely starter for El Tri this summer.

"Giovani is hurting. Giovani is shattered," Zizinho told Mexican daily Reforma. "Giovani does not even feel like playing in the World Cup."

Zizinho said both of his sons were in tears when he spoke separately with each of them. While Jona's feelings won't exactly hamper the team in any way, Gio's weakened mental state might be a hindrance to Mexico's chances. After all, Zizinho said his sons' dreams were shattered.

"I spoke with (Giovani) and he said he does not feel well, that he does not want to play," Zizinho said. "His dream was to be with his brother."
