Jonathan Dos Santos' Father Says 'Jona' Is Done With Mexico
The Barcelona youngster won't play for El Tri any more, Zizinho insisted.
Zizinho, the former Mexican league star and father of Jonathan and Giovani, said his younger son has played his final game with El Tricolor.
"Jonathan will not play for Mexico any more," Zizinho told Mexican television network Televisa. "I love Mexico, I adore it, it is my country even though I am Brazilian but they cannot hurt him this way."
Dos Santos was cut from Mexico's World Cup team as manager Javier Aguirre finalized his World Cup roster. Giovani is a key member of the team and was always seemingly a lock, but Jonathan appeared close behind. While perhaps not a first-choice player like his older brother, 'Jona' is seen as a future hope for Mexico.
Even if the World Cup is not in his future, Mexican Football Federation executives said he would be in consideration for Copa America 2011 and the 2012 Olympics - provided Mexico qualify.
But his father seemed adamant that Mexico will have to look elsewhere for help.
"I am upset with the national team," Zizinho said. "They won't do this to him any more because this is not the first time they've done this to him."
