Toluca won at Tigres while Pachuca held off Morelia at home as both teams made up ground in their respective groups.
Toluca 1, Tigres 0
Lowly Tigres nearly held los Diablos but Carlos Esquivel scored with a quarter-hour left to give Toluca a win.
The loss put Tigres on a 2-7-3 mark, and only Indios have fewer points Tigres.
Toluca meanwhile moved ahead of Atlas for third place in the Group 1 table, one point ahead of Atlas.
Antonio Naelson "Zinha" created the goal with a cross from the right flank. Esquivel trapped the ball with his chest and fired a shot past Cirilo Sauceda.
Pachuca 1, Morelia 0
Pachuca nabbed a win for the first time since Feb. 14 as los Tuzos beat Morelia at home.
The victory moved Pachuca to within one point of America for third place in the Group 2 table.
Edgar Benitez found Damian Manso as Pachuca broke into the penalty area. Benitez raced down the right side of the box and fed Manso on the left side, and Manso only had to re-direct the ball into the back of the net. Replays showed, however, that Manso was offside when Benitez sent the ball into the goal.
