Pachuca had not been able to win in more than one month but the club finally broke through against Guatemala's Comunicaciones.

Pachuca needed help as two Comunicaciones players were sent off within minutes of each other and los Tuzos scored twice on the shorthanded Guatemalans to win 2-1 in Estadio Hidalgo.

The result sends los Tuzos through to the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals.

Pachuca's bad luck seemed to have carried over into this match. Twice in the first half, los Tuzos came close to scoring but could not get their shots on target. First, Dario Cvitanich slammed a shot off the post in the 39th minute, then one minute

later Ulisis Mendivil had an open look at an open goal but sent his rebound attempt well over the goal.

Early in the second half, Pachuca continued their harried play. Cvitanich again had a chance but couldn't do much with it, barely sending his opportunity on goal.

Damian Manso tried to knife through Comunicaciones' defense and rifled a shot on goal but 'keeper Guerra turned him away.

However, the Guatemalans unraveled by their own doing. First, Carlos Gallardo was handed a red card for a vicious tackle. Then, Pachuca's Javier David Muñoz and Comunicaciones' Fredy Thompson jostled for position, and Muñoz was shown a yellow for elbowing Thompson. However, Thompson later flattened Muñoz with his knee and was shown a red card.

Finally, Paul Aguilar broke through the defense and scored for los Tuzos. Manso fed Aguilar on the right side of the area and Aguilar calmly fired a curling left-footed shot past a flat-footed Guerra to give Pachuca the lead.

Still, things were not going to come easy for los Tuzos. Leobardo Lopez was whistled for a handball inside the area and

Comunicaciones had their chance to equalize. Rolando Fonseca buried the spot kick in the 75th minute and the match was even once more.

With two minutes to spare, Luis Montes lined up a long-range shot and scored the match winner. Off a corner kick, Montes had a ball bounce out of the box to his feet and he immediately ripped a 25-yard shot on goal that Guerra could not stop, and Pachuca claimed the late victory and advanced to the semifinal round.
