Mexicans Abroad: Back From Tricolor Duty

Nine European-based Mexicans returned to their clubs on the weekend after a midweek match in Southern California; how did they fare?

Collectively, the European contingent played well in Mexico's match against New Zealand on March 3. All nine players saw action and a handful of them went the distance. It remains to be seen whether the match helped players' chances or not, but Carlos Vela scored a goal and Jonathan Dos Santos did well for himself as well.

However, the game seemed to have little effect in the players' teams. Of the nine players who saw action against New Zealand, only four played and just one of them was not substituted out. One player - Giovani Dos Santos - will play his game on Monday, though.

Perhaps European managers were worried about the long flights from the West Coast of the United States to Europe and maybe jet lag contributed to the lack of action. Still, the players would likely trade that for a spot on the World Cup team.
