Chivas 2-0 San Luis: Chivas Nab Eighth Consecutive Victory
Chivas are on a torrid pace and extended their league-record seven consecutive season-opening victory streak to eight after beating San Luis.
Adolfo Bautista and Hector Reynoso scored goals on either side of halftime to give Chivas the victory.
San Luis had a few early shots but Luis Ernesto Michel made sure that none of them hit the back of the net.
Javier Hernandez nearly drew a penalty after he was pushed down inside the penalty area but nothing came from it.
As if Chivas needed any help, though, San Luis pitched in. After failing to get the ball out of the back, San Luis defenders passed the ball around. With Chivas attackers swarming around the ball, goalkeeper Adrian Martinez took control of it on the left side of the area. He sent a slow-rolling ball outside of the penalty area to Oscar Mascorro, who hit a soft ball back towards Martinez. Adolfo "Bofo" Bautista got to it, eluded Martinez and held it a moment longer before knocking it into the back of the net.
San Luis turned up the pressure in the second half and a few opportunities to score but the defense stood firm and was able to turn away San Luis' attackers.
Hernandez finally got his penalty after Mascorro, who had a horrendous game on the back, tackled Hernandez down inside the area.
"Chicharito" took the penalty kick but was unable to add to his league-leading goal mark. The rebound bounced out Marco Fabian on the right side, who sent the ball back to the front of the net. Reynoso was alone and tapped the ball into the back of the net.
Chvias supporters stayed after the match to chant and serenade their record-setting club.
