Pachuca 0-3 Pumas: Offensive Slump Over For Pumas

Pumas had scored eight goals all season - and just one from a forward - before taking out their frustrations on Pachuca.

Pumas snapped out of their offensive skid and may have finally turned the corner after beating Pachuca 3-0 in Estadio Hidalgo.

Mired in a season-long offensive slump, Pumas got goals from three different players, including one from beleaguered forward Dante Lopez.

For Pachuca, meanwhile, the result was less than expected. Pachuca had won their first three home games this season but suddenly have two straight home losses and have a three-match winless streak overall.

In the fourth minute of play, Jehu Chiapas sent a corner kick to the front of the six-yard box. Lopez found space and got his head to the ball, burying it past Pachuca goalkeeper Miguel Calero.

Minutes later, Pachuca's Damian Manso had a chance to equalize but skill and fate intervened. Manso unloaded a 25-yard shot on goal. Pumas' Sergio Bernal dived and got enough on the ball to alter its course. The ball still got past Bernal but hit the crossbar and bounced out. The ball caromed off Bernal's back and bounced towards the empty net but rolled back harmlessly towards Bernal instead of skipping into the net.

Pumas struck again shortly after. In the 22nd minute, Pumas had a throw-in deep in their side of the field. The ball went to Marco Antonio Palacios, who sailed a ball high towards the middle of the field. Pablo Barrera flicked the ball forward towards Martin Bravo. With Pachuca's players all pushed up into the other side of the field, Bravo eluded one defender and ran towards Pachuca's penalty area completely alone. Bravo slipped past Calero, dribbled towards the goal and unloaded the ball into an empty net.

Three minutes later, Pumas scored yet another goal. Pablo Barrera, who scored in Mexico's 5-0 win over Bolivia on Wednesday, continued is torrid pace. On a counterattack, Barrera took control of the ball outside the area, dribbled in and had Bravo on the far post. Calero appeared to have anticipated a pass but Barrera, from the left side of area fired a shot on goal, at the gaping space Caleroa had just vacated.

Pachuca had little to show for their efforts as the hosts appeared stunned and out of sorts after Pumas' trio of goals.
