Tigres 0-3 Morelia: Monarcas Find Scoring Touch Once More
Morelia had not scored in three games coming in but left Monterrey with a 3-0 win over Tigres.
Morelia entered Saturday's contest havig failed to score in three consecutive matches.
Monarcas tried to remedy that against Tigres on Saturday and walked away with a deserved 3-0 win over the beleagured Tigres side.
Morelia's victory entered a three-match winless skid and had not scored in any of the three matches. But the going was easy against Tigres, who have yet to win a game since winning the first match of the Bicentenario 2010 campaign.
On the quarter-hour, Hugo Droguett set up the first goal with a well-executed play. Droguett held the ball near the edge of the penalty area and fed Luis Gabriel Rey, who knocked the ball forward to Droguett. With no angle to shoot on goal, Droguett knocked a ball to the right side of the area and Elias Hernandez buried the ball into the back of the net.
Miguel Sabah converted the second goal as Tigres' defenders did little to prevent him from scoring. Marvin Cabrera walked down the right flank virtually unmolested. Cabrera sent the ball to the near post, where Sabah had made a run. Sabah fired a shot on goal as Tigres' flat-footed defenders merely watched and the visitors had a 2- lead before the intermission.
Gabriel Pereyra got Morelia's third goal of the match, again rather unmolested. Rey controlled a cross that had come in from the left side. Rey trapped the ball and sent it back to Aldo Leal Ramirez. As Tigres defenders walked out of the penalty area, Pereyra timed his run inside the box and was able to beat Morelia's defenders to the ball. With Tigres players raising their hands pleading for an offside call, Pereyra settled the ball, controlled it and lifted it over Tigres' Cirilo Sauceda and into the back of the net.
Showing no fire in defending, Tigres showed little more in trying to claw out of the hole they'd dug for themselves and Morelia picked up a much-needed victory with some much-need goals.
