Torrado More Impressed With Tri's Play Than Score.
Gerardo Torrado said what mattered most to him about Wednesday's 5-0 rout of Bolivia was the way the team played, not the fact that they won by five goals.
By Andrea Martinez
Torrado urged not to get caught up with the score and says there is still plenty of work ahead of the team, and isn’t focusing on the makeshift Bolivian team that faced Mexico on Wednesday night.
“We shouldn’t look at the rival, Bolivia went to do their job. I’m left with what the team did rather than what Bolivia did,” Torrado told reporters after the match.
The game against Bolivia was the first in a series of exhibition games to be played in the United States in preparation for the World Cup in South Africa. Up next is a match next week against New Zealand at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.
“It was important for the team to be dynamic and able to have the ball and concentrate on plays that led to goals. The team looked well and we have to continue working to face what’s next and continue down that path.”
The score line wasn’t the best result for the captain - rather it was the team work shown by the Mexican team.
“We won but we also have to be grounded. It’s always important in friendly games to function well. That the team wins is always important, but we have to keep working we still have much left [to do], we can’t go crazy [over the score]. Although, we are happy with the collective work.
“The important thing was the group work despite the fact that the opponent wasn’t too strong. It was a well played game where good and pleasing things were achieved. It served for us to try and get on the list. On my part I think I’m going down a good path and I hope to end up with a spot [on the roster].”
