Morelia 0-0 Nacional: Blown Opportunities Keep Monarcas Scoreless
Morelia had a pair of golden first-half chances but wasted them as Nacional escaped Michoacan with a point.
Nacional have four points in Group 6, with Argentina's Banfield topping the group with six points. Morelia sit in third place with one point while Deportivo Cuenca have lost both of their matches and have no points.
Morelia had a great opportunity in the 21st minute to break open the scoring. Elias Hernandez received the ball inside the penalty area and got past Nacional's defense. From about 10 yards out, though, Hernandez hit a weak attempt that rolled harmlessly past the left post.
Nacional practically rolled out the red carpet in the 28th minute as Luis Gabriel Rey waltzed into the penalty area completely unmarked. With Hernandez on the left side of the box, Rey opted to place a shot on goal and had the far side open. However, Rey's shot was equally as weak as Hernandez's and Nacional dodged a bullet.
Nacional did not have very much possession of the ball but Morelia were less than precise with their attempts later in the match. Early in the second half, Hugo Droguett had an attempt but hit yet another soft shot on goal, one that sailed directly to Nacional 'keeper Rodrigo Muñoz.
The game lost what little rhythm it had shortly after. Morelia's Jared Borgetti and Nacional's Sebastian Coates were each booked in the 52nd minute while Nacional's Alejandro Lembo saw yellow two minutes later. About 10 minutes later, Nacioncal's Sebastian Balsas and Morelia's Jaime Duran were each given yellow cards.
The visitors continued to suck the life out of the match by dropping numbers behind the ball but Morelia could not break through.
Morelia's Miguel Sabah assured his side would not threaten much longer when he was sent off in the 86th minute for a rough foul on Alexandro Lemo. Morelia manager Tomas Boy was also sent off in the 90th minute.
