America's Montenegro: There's Room For Improvement

Daniel Montenegro knows there's a problem with America but can't pinpoint the cause.

The problems America has faced in the past seasons have haunted managers, presidents and fans alike. Last season America went through an eight game streak where they were unbeatable. As the season wore on America started to dissipate. The rampant attack that was present in the beginning of the season was lowered to a trickle of goals in the end. This year America has been real inconsistent. Their top striker was unfortunately sidelined but America still lacks something else believes Daniel Montenegro.

"It's something that happened to us last season. We could not find the reason why we played well in the first half and lost our rhythm in the second half. We need to figure out how to close out games. Those are things we know have solution and we hope Sunday that that does not happen," said Montenegro in a press conference.

A perfect example of America's lack of consistency was seen last Sunday in their match against Tigres. "Rolfi" says they had them where they wanted but then let them get back in the game.

"I'm not sure if it was lack of focus," noted Montenegro. "After the 1-0, we could have scored more goals but didn't. That was more because of us, for not having finished the game off. Afterward they scored goals and positioned themselves to play the game they wanted to."

Montenegro believes America should have more tallies in the win column for there were games which America could have won. Not all games were like that though and Rolfi recognizes that.

"(There have been games) we did not deserve to lose but lost, even though against Toluca we didn't play the way we had been playing and we paid for t. Those are things we have to improve on," admitted Montenegro.
