Chivas extended their winning streak to seven consecutive games during the Bicentenario 2010 on Saturday with a 3-2 win over Puebla. Two goals from Adolfo ‘Bofo’ Bautista and one from Xavi Baez from Chivas were enough to give Chivas the victory, while ex-Galaxy player Herculez Gomez contributed a goal to Puebla as well as Marcelo Palau, but it was not enough to give Puebla a single point.

First Half

Chivas opened the scoring first in the 6th minute with a goal from Bautista. Adolfo ‘Bofo’ Bautista received the ball inside Puebla’s box, left a defender on the ground and was able to send it over Jorge Villapando who had come out to give Chivas the early 1-0 lead.

Puebla equalized in the 20th minute with Herculez Gomez giving Puebla the equalizer. Manuel Mondragon sent in a long pass from right midfield to Gomez who received on the edge of Chivas’ box, left Chivas defenders struggling to get to the Puebla player who then took the shot to make it 1-1.

Five minutes later Alberto ‘Venado’ Medina had an opportunity for Chivas when Marcelo Palau failed to properly clear the ball and left it in the path of the Chivas player. However, Medina could not capitalize on the opportunity and sent it wide of goal.

Bautista added a second goal moments before the conclusion of the first half. A play that started in Chivas’ own half saw the ball go to Puebla ‘keeper Villalpando, but the ball left his hands. ‘Venado’ Medina  then crossed into Pueblas’ box where ‘Bofo’ arrived  in front of Villalpando to strike with his head and send the ball into the back of the net for a 2-1 lead.

Second Half

Not long after play resumed Chivas made it on the score sheet again. Omar Bravo took the ball down the right on a counter attack and tried to send it in to Puebla’s box for Bautista. However, Bautista was unable to  get the ball as he slipped on the ground but Xavi Baez came in to strike and give Chivas the 3-1 lead.

A free kick taken in the  55th minute by Marcelo Palau gave Puebla a goal. Palau’s shot went over the wall made by the Chivas players and left Michel glued to his spot to watch as the score turned 3-2.

In the 61st minute ‘Pescadito’ Ruiz tried to add another goal for Puebla as he had a shot straight at goal, but Luis Michel saved to prevent the equalizer.

Omar Bravo almost added a fourth for Chivas in the 66th minute. Bravo received the ball from substitute Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez and drew out Villalpando from goal but as Bravo tried to slide the ball into goal, Roberto Juarez arrived in time to stop the ball from rolling in for a goal.

It seemed like Puebla’s Juarez had scored the equalizer in the 84th minute. Puebla had been awarded a free kick taken by Gilberto Mora. The ball reached Juarez at the far post who headed in the ball, but it was deemed offside to keep the score at 3-2.
