Morelia Manager Calls Officiating A "Disgrace" After Loss
Morelia's Tomas Boy said the officiating was disgraceful in his side's 1-0 loss to Cruz Azul.
After being whistled for 17 fouls, Morelia had one more strike against them as a bad bounce inside the box led to a Cesar Villaluz goal in Cruz Azul's 1-0 win over Morelia.
Still, Morelia boss Tomas Boy said his team was undone by the officiating.
"Every ball that was disputed was a Morelia foul," a visibly upset Boy said in a post-match press conference. "A ball in the air - Morelia foul. Foul, foul, foul. Morelia is a foul machine. Is Morelia a dirty team? Of course not. What we saw (Wednesday) was a disgrace."
Boy said his team had a hand in the loss but that the referee's whistle sunk the squad.
"Of course we lost the game because we needed to have finished our chances and of course that bit of lost focus at the end," Boy said. "But if you are called for a foul and then another foul and another foul and another foul, I mean, dear God. Israel Lopez committed 10 consecutive fouls and he did not even get a yellow card. That's insane."
Cruz Azul did not put much pressure on Morelia's goal yet still managed the win, which confunded Boy.
"For God's sake, what did Cruz Azul do to deserve this victory?" Boy asked. "You can't do anything when it's like that - bam, bam, bam. You came in here to play as a visitor, play them tough. Morelia comes out to give it everything we've got, but I can't really say more to be honest because I'm quite upset."
