Pachuca 0-1 Chivas: Baez Blast Leads Chivas To Sixth Straight Win
Xavier Baez knocked a long-range shot into the back of the net as Chivas won their sixth consecutive win.
By Andrea Martinez
Javier Hernandez was thrown out of contention before the game with a tweaked muscular problem. However, Chivas continued to function without their goal-scorer.
First Half
Chivas had several opportunities in the opening minutes with Aaron Galindo sending in a shot that whizzed past the post in the tenth minute.
Pachuca responded with opportunities of their own with Paul Aguilar sending in a long ranged effort from the right side of the field that went wide of Chivas’ goal in the 18th minute.
Again, in the 23rd minute Pachuca had an opportunity attacking from the right. Damian Manso sent in a cross which was met by Ulises Mendivil, but the header was controlled by goalkeeper Luis Michel as he dove to his right to save.
Alberto ‘Venado’ Medina had a shot in the 38th minute drawing out Miguel Calero from goal, but getting his shot stopped by the post.
Second Half
In the second half Chivas took the advantage in the 62nd minute. Omar Arellano took the ball in midfield but it bounced away from the striker. However, a nearby Xavi Baez was there and took a shot from the midfield that left Calero with little to do but see the ball go past his outstretched hand to give Chivas the 1-0 lead.
Chivas came close to doubling their lead in the 78th minute. Omar Bravo received a pass from Adolfo ‘Bofo’ Bautista but Bravo was unable to define during his one-on-one moment against Miguel Calero.
Pachuca continued late into the game, with a long pass controlled by Edgar Benitez cutting down an angle and forcing Luis Michel out but the ball ended up hitting the post.
With the win Chivas remained as SuperLiders of the Bicentenario 2010 with 18 points while Pachuca dropped to second place of group two behind Monterrey with 12 points.
