Cruz Azul's Meza "Embarrassed" With Team's Performance
Enrique Meza did not try and hide his feelings following Cruz Azul's 2-0 loss to America on Sunday.
America handed their Mexico City rivals a 2-0 setback, and manager Enrique Meza said it was simple for him to pinpoint his team's problems.
"I don't believe we had too many opportunities and we gave the impression that we did not know how to play because we frequently lost the ball," Meza said in a post-game press conference. "We did not play well and I don't want to take any credit away from America because they did what they had to do."
cruz Azul fell to 1-3-1 on the season and are slumping during a time when they were expected to compete. Losing any game is tough, Meza has said, but losing this match against America in their house was particularly embarrassing.
"We embarrassed our fans who supported us and, despite losing 2-0 continued showing support for their team," Meza said.
Things don't exactly get any easier for la Maquina. Morelia visits Cruz Azul on Wednesday as la Maquina will have to repeat their semifinal triumph from last playoffs in order to right their wrongs.
Still, the season is still more than salvageable but Meza said things need to get better soon.
"We have to improve. Everybody has a great responsibility and we have to correct everything that is happening to us," Meza said. "Last week we had some scoring opportunities that we did not put away but (Sunday) aside from not having the ball, we did not get any clear scoring chances and that is alarming because this is an attacking team."
