Pumas 1-1 Estudiantes: Pumas' Scoring Woes Continue
Pumas' scoring woes continued in their Jornada 5 match as Pablo Barrera scored the team's lone goal in their 1-1 draw against Estudiantes.
To complicate Pumas' situation, the clubs' defense showed some kinks for the second consecutive week. Meanwhile, Estudiantes picked up their second consecutive positive result as the visitors accumulated their fourth point in their last two games.
Pumas' offense again misfired. Pablo Barrera is seemingly the only Pumas player who has had any sort of knack for scoring goals as the midfielder scored another goal, his fourth of the season. Rubens Sambueza scored Estudiantes' only goal, on a penalty kick in first-half stoppage time.
Barrera opened the scoring in the 17th minute and threatened to give Pumas the breakthrough offensive performance the club needs as a whole. Barrera got the ball on the right side of the box and dribbled across the area before firing a shot into the back corner of the net. Estudiantes were stunned and appeared ready to lay down and give up more goals, particularly in the 23rd minute.
Fredy Bareiro was sent off in the 23rd minute for throwing a punch and Estudiantes were down to 10 men. It seemed like just a matter of time before the second goal fell.
However, when the second goal was scored, it was the visitors who tied up the match. Efrain Juarez reached out and played a ball inside the penalty are with his arm. Juarez was trying to gain control of the ball when he batted at it and hit the ball with his tricep. Sambueza stepped to the spot and buried a left-footed ball into the back of the net.
In the second half the teams exchanged missed chances and poorly-aimed shots as the game finished in a 1-1 draw.
