The winning streak continued for Chivas as the team beat Atlante 2-0 on Saturday night. Goals from Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernadnez and Alberto ‘Venado’ Medina gave Chivas another win and further gave way to the perfect start in the Bicentenario 2010 and the best start in Chivas history. Atlante further extended their losing streak and have been unable to win during the tournament.

Chivas’ line-up remained similar to the previous successful teams, but ‘Bofo’ Bautista was given the chance to start after a midweek injury to Edgar ‘Chore’ Mejia was left out of the squad due to an injury sustained midweek.

First Half

Little time was wasted as Chivas quickly took advantage of a free kick given for a foul on Omar Bravo in the early stages of the game. In the second minute ‘Bofo’ Bautista, who claimed his first start for Chivas in the Bicentenario 2010 took the free kick. An awaiting Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez struck the ball with his left foot, and sent it right into goal where Altante goalkeeper Federico Vilar was unable to stop the ball and prevent Chivas from going 1-0 up.

The second goal of the night was added moments later in the fifth minute. ‘Chicharito’ gave a pass to Alberto ‘Venado’ Medina at the edge of the box where the player’s shot was lobbed after hitting Andres Carevic‘s leg . Federico Vilar was caught off his line and tried to stop the ball, managing to get a right hand on it, but it went past the goalkeeper for Chivas’ 2-0 lead.

Atlante responded with several opportunities and came close in the 22nd minute. Los Potros received a free kick which Jose Gonzales sent toward Chivas’ goal forcing Luis Michel into a save.

In the 27th minute Atlante had another opportunity as Joel Sanchez sent in the ball for Rojas, but the timing was too tight and Rojas slid toward the ball and Luis Michel.

One of the best opportunities for Atlante arrived in the 33rd minute. ‘Hobbit’ Bermudez took the ball from Hector Reynoso in midfield and passed to Rafael Marquez Lugo who then brought out Luis Michel and rounder the goalkeeper but failed to put the ball in goal by sending it high past the crossbar and into the stands instead.

It was then Chivas’ turn to miss a goal. In the 40th minute ‘Chicharito’ sent in a ball to Omar Bravo who drew out Vilar and tried to slide the ball past the goalkeeper, but it went too long and ended wide of an open goal.

Second Half

Atlante’s Arturo Muñoz came close to cutting Chivas’ lead in half in the 56th minute. The player managed to pass Chivas’ defense and went up against Luis Michel one on one, but ended up send the ball too high and missed the opportunity to add a goal for Atlante.

In the 72nd minute Rafael Marquez Lugo had another opportunity in front of goal, but the ball refused to go in and hit the crossbar instead.

‘Chicharito’ Hernandez came close to adding his second in the 79th minute after a pass from Marco Fabian was passed past the defender for ‘Chicharito’ to collect inside the box. As the player tried to hit the ball, Atlante’s Navarro stopped the player, preventing another goal.
