Cruz Azul's Orozco: We Are Better Than America
Cruz Azul's Javier Orozco said his team was better than Mexico City rivals America, and said they would prove that on Sunday.
And while America have two wins and appear poised for another run to the playoffs, Cruz Azul's Javier Orozco said his side was the team to beat on Sunday.
"We have a very good team and, player for player, I believe we are much better," Orozco told Mexican daily Reforma. "America have a great institution, a great team as well, but we hope this Sunday will be much better for us and to come out with three points."
Cruz Azul have not had much luck against America in recent history, however. America have not lost to Cruz Azul in their last 15 meetings. Still, Orozco said that has more to do with Cruz Azul's lack of focus than America's dominance.
"We've encountered some tough situations in which we haven't been concentrated because last season came down to the final minute when they scored to beat us 3-2, but like I said we are better player for player and Sunday will be different," he said.
While the derby, nicknamed the Clasico Joven, will pit the two long-standing rivals against one another, Orozco said his team cannot lose the pre-game mental battle and must come out focused for their own sake.
"We can't be worried because it's America. We haven't won in the last 15 games and a lot of things have happened but we have to be focused and come out with a good result on Sunday for our supporters, for ourselves, for the coaching staff and the front office.
