Atlas' Barbosa Wants Apology For "Delinquent" Treatment
Atlas 'keeper Damian Barbosa said he wanted an apology for the fallout that ensued following his run-win with Santos executive Gustavo De Villa.
Atlas 'keeper Damian Barbosa was sent off late in the game after picking up two yellow cards in quick succession. Afterward, he got into a verbal altercation with Santos executive Gustavo De Villa.
After serving a one-match suspension, Barbosa is set to play against Morelia on the weekend. But Barbosa's run-in with De Villa has not entirely evaporated.
"I could ask for forgiveness but I also deserve an apology for everything that was said, all the fallout and in the media it appeared that I was a delinquent," Barbosa told Guadalajara daily Mural.
Barbosa was not suspended for any more games, as Santos officials had demanded, but the Argentine 'keeper was slapped with a fine by the Mexican Football Federation. Barbosa said the whole incident was a misunderstanding.
"I'm not one to have a lack of respect for people, much less an executive, but the truth is I did not know he was an executive until I got back to the locker room," Barbosa said.
Santos officials claimed Barbosa threatened to kill De Villa, but Barbosa said that was off base, and that the insults went both ways.
"There was never a threat," Barbosa said. "There were insults from both parts but nothing more. What I thought was strange was that they are making such a big deal out of this and placing a lot of importance on something that isn't worthwhile. I asked for forgiveness but he disrespected me just like I disrespected him.
