Atlas' Bottinelli Filled With Confidence Ahead Of America Match
Atlas will host America in Jornada 4 of the Bicentenario 2010 season, and Atlas' Dario Bottinelli said his side is the favorite.
With America coming to visit Atlas in Estadio Jalisco on Saturday, Atlas players said their club is the favorites to win the match and not the Mexico City giants.
"If I don't say that we are favorites, then I am saying that we will not be confident when we step onto the field," Atlas' Dario Bottinelli told Guadalajara daily Mural. "We are going to come out like that (confident), to win and play like we have been. It's just a matter of playing with desire, emotion and to be content with our training. That's what makes good teams."
Atlas lost their season opener by 2-0 at Pumas but beat Monterrey 3-0 at home before surpising Santos 2-1 at their new Territorio Santos Modelo. Atlas thus have six points and trail fellow Guadalajara club Chivas in the Group 1 table. Chivas have a spotless 3-0 record.
For their part, Atlas said their success hinges on their ability to play the way new manager Carlos Ischia wants.
"We've been playing the football we want to play," Bottinelli said. "We're confident."
Bottinelli scored one goal and set up the other in Sunday's win over Santos, which also featured the continued resurgence of Miguel Zepeda. Atlas' recent wins give the club hope that relegation does not await, but haven't sent the team into any sort of overconfidence.
"The results enable for the players to gain more confidence in their abilities and come game time, the players feel more comfortable," Bottinelli said. "That doesn't mean there is no pressure. There is always pressure to win, to show our supporters that we want to be in a better position and get out of the relegation zone."
