“The report that we have is that they tried to assault him yesterday (Monday). He was a victim of an assault. I don’t have the exact location but it was in Mexico City on Monday night. Thank God Juan Carlos is fine. He was shot in the gluteus, but the bullet went in and came out which did not cause major damage,” said Edwin Victoria, America's press officer.
According to information provided by Mexico City police, Silva was approached by one assailant on the driver's side demanding he give up his truck, a 2008 Dodge Nitro. When Silva refused to get out of his vehicle, a second assailant approached on the passenger's side, and upon refusing a second time, the assailant on the driver's side reached inside his clothes, took out a gun and fired a shot. According to the report, Silva told police the assailants fled in a white Chrysler.
America released Juan Carlos’ medical report on Tuesday in which the seriousness of the injury was revealed.
“The team doctor, Joaquin Ledesma, informed that Juan Carlos Silva presented a bullet impact in the left gluteus which has an entry and exit wound. An Ultrasound determined that there was no damage to the muscle. There weren’t any bullet fragments and there wasn’t any infection.
“Only the fatty tissue was damaged, with a hematoma present as well. This means he should be able to recover in 7 to 10 days. Later in the evening he will go back with the club to receive a tetnis shot,” detailed the medical report.
“El Torito” was not available to the media and Americas President Michel Bauer also chose to be isolated from the press and turned down all comments.
