Although Salvador Cabañas was not present on the field, the striker motivated America to push forward and get the win. It was clear that the America offense missed the Paraguayan striker, who was shot in the head on Jan. 25 and is in critical condition in a Mexico City hospital, but they still stuck it out and thanks to a lone strike by Enrique Esqueda, Las Aguilas could dedicate the win to "Chava."

The win puts America as fourth in their group while Indios remain winless for 20 games in a row.

First Half

The game started out a little slow but America got the first hit of the day. Daniel Montenegro tried it from outside the box but his low driven shot went wide of the mark.

America would get one on target in the 12th minute.  Enrique “Paleta” Esqueda put in a low shot that was deflected off the Indio defense and Christina Martinez made the easy save.

America was clearly in control of the game.

Indios did not get into the game until after the 26th minute. Edwin Santibañez tried to create but the America defense was just too much.

America’s offense was rolling but could not find the finishing touch. Angel Reyna tried his luck from long distance in the 37th minute. His shot didn’t have enough behind it and Martinez made the save.

America’s goal was immanent and it came in the 40th minute. Esqueda drove down the left, crossed his shot and scored. America went up 1-0.

The half ended shortly thereafter.

Second Half

Indios tried to get in the game to start the second half. Both Edwin Santibañez and Emil Martinez had shots on goal but nothing would fall for Indios.

America did not respond until the 58th minute. Jean Beausejour cut through the left and crossed his shot but the ball went wide of the mark.

Indios had another shot on goal in the 59th minute. Hector Gimenez turned and shot on goal but Guillermo Ochoa was well alert and sent the ball out for a corner.

America’s Daniel Marquez tried it form the outside in the 70th minute. Marquez sent in his shot but the ball bounced off of Juan de la Barrera and went out for a corner.

Indios had a shot on goal in the 72nd minute. Santibañez sent in a low shot which Ochoa had his hands all over.

Both teams had good looks at the end of the game but none could convert.

America took the three points thanks to Esqueda’s lone goal.
