Mexicans Abroad: Dutch Days

The trio of Mexicans in the Netherlands made the most impact for the European-based contingent of the Mexicans Abroad this weekend, Goal.com's Andrea Martinez writes.

By Andrea Martinez

Carlos Salcido- PSV Eindhoven (Mexsport)
In Spanish, English and German league play, Mexicans combined for two minutes of action. But the Dutch contingent had much better luck and managed to make an impact for their respective clubs.

Meanwhile, Nery Castillo seemed so close to a move back to Greece but now it appears a move won't be as straightforward as once thought.

Spain

Rafael Marquez (Barcelona)
- Marquez never left the bench for the 3-0 win over Valladolid. Next: @ Sporting Gijon 1/30 La Liga

Andres Guardado (Deportivo La Coruña)
- Guardado is out with injury. Depor lost to Sevilla FC 0-3 in the Copa del Rey. Over the weekend Depor won 3-1 against Athletic Bilbao. Next: @ Sevilla FC 1/27 Copa del Rey; Real Madrid 1/30 La Liga.

Jonathan Dos Santos (Barca Atletic)
- Dos Santos was called on for the 3-0 win over Valladolid, but didn’t suit up for the game. Next: Gava 1/31.

Juan Seguro (Real Union Club de Irun)
- Seguro secured his place on the bench for the entire match as Hercules won 1-0. Next: @ Recreativo Huelva 1/31.

Germany

Ricardo Osorio (Stuttgart)
- Osorio watched from the bench as Stuttgart won 1-0 over SC Freiburg. Next: Borussia Dortmund 1/31 Bundesliga.

England

Giovani Dos Santos (Tottenham Hotspur)
- Dos Santos was on the bench for the midweek Premier League game against Liverpool where Spurs lost 2-0. The player was not called on for the 2-2 draw against Leeds United in the FA Cup. Next: Fulham 1/26 Premier League; @ Birmingham 1/30 Premier League.

Carlos Vela (Arsenal)- Vela entered the midweek Premier League game against Bolton Wanderers in the 88th minute where Arsenal won 4-2. In the weekend FA Cup match against Stoke, Vela was in the starting XI and played all 90 minutes but failed to make much of an impact in Arsenal’s 1-3 loss; the Gunners are out of the FA Cup competition.
