Report: Mexico To Face Bolivia In San Francisco In February

El Tricolor will play Bolivia in a friendly match in El Salvador next month, Bolivian federation president Carlos Alberto Chavez said.

Mexico have yet to confirm any of their five U.S.-based friendlies this year but their path to South Africa is filling out nevertheless.

Bolivia and Mexico will meet up on Feb. 24 in San Francisco, Bolivian federation president Carlos Alberto Chavez said in a radio interview.

"The game against Mexico has been officially confirmed, for Feb. 24," Chavez told Radio Formula. "We will play against Mexico in San Francisco, Calif. The organization that made this game possible was Futplay, an Argentine company who bought the Bolivian national team's rights. I did not speak directly with (FMF President) Justino (Compean). The terms of the game were overseen by Futplay."

Bolivia will be Mexico's fourth opponent that has been confirmed or strongly rumored by outside organizations. Mexico will likely play against New Zealand in Pasadena, Calif., in March, Chile in Estadio Azteca in May and the Netherlands in Austria in May as well. The Mexican Football Federation have not yet announced any friendlies, but is expected to do so in the near future.

Mexico played Bolivia in 2009. On March 11, Mexico ripped apart Bolivia 5-1 in what was ultimately a fruitless exercise. While Mexico beat Costa Rica in their second World Cup qualifying match, in late March, Mexico lost to Honduras subsequently and manager Sven-Goran Eriksson was sacked afterward.

This time around, Mexico will use the Bolivia match as preparation for the World Cup. Since the game does not fall on international fixture date, El Tri will likely count on a roster filled with domestic players.
