thumbnail Hello,

Ten-man Atlante hang on for a win.

HOUSTON, Texas- InterLiga 2010 got off to a good start with a thrilling match between Atlante and Estudiantes Tecos. Despite going down a man the Iron Colts would claim a second half lead and hang on for a 2-1 victory.

In just the tenth minute the match had its opening goal with Daniel Arreola opening the scoring for Atlante with a brilliant dipping strike from 35yards out.

Tecos took just under 20 minutes to answer with a goal of their own coming through Mauro Emiliano Cejas.

Just before the break the match would take another turn as Atlante defender Jose Daniel Guerro was shown a straight red card for a late tackle just in front of his box. The ensuing freekick was on target but easily saved and the teams would go to the break level.

Despite being down a man Atlante took advantage of some lazy defending just after the break. Christian Bermudez fed a ball through to Guillermo Rojas in behind the Tecos line. The striker finished calmly to give the Iron Colts their second lead of the night.

Tecos should have answered in the 52nd. A headed effort beat Atlante 'keeper Frederico Villar, but came back off the post. Villar was called into action for the rebound, and after his save fell kindly for a Tecos player the post was called on to stop the third effort.

Down a man, but up a goal Atlante seemed mostly content to sit back and try to finish the game off on the break. Tecos attacked furiously and called Villar into action several times over the closing half hour of the match, but the equalizer was not to come and Atlante got the win in the opening match of the competition.
