Pavel Pardo Hopeful for 2010
After falling out of favor with the national team Pavel Pardo still feels hopeful for being at the 2010 World Cup.
"Yes, I see myself at the World Cup," Pardo said in a press conference. "Like Aguirre said, everyone has a chance. He does not have a team right now."
Pardo has always been associated with the Mexican National team. When Javier Aguirre takes over the reigns though, things change. Aguirre did not include Pardo in his 2002 World Cup squad and since taking over this year Pardo has only amassed 45 minutes. That doesn’t slow Pardo; he believes he can get back to form.
"I have to show what I've shown until now," Pardo said. "I've proven a lot throughout my career and I know what I am about."
Even if the National team squad does not include him Pardo see’s a bright future for Mexico in the World Cup.
"Sure, the first game is against South Africa but I see some great possibilities there," he said. "France could be a difficult team but it would not be impossible to beat them. Uruguay we've faced many times before so there are some great possibilities to get through to the next round."
Pardo will also hope to be a part of another international tournament. America will make their return to the coveted Copa Libertadores. The extra games will give a chance for Pardo to showcase his skills and earn his spot back in the Mexican starting eleven.
"If you analyze all of the previous editions of Copa Libertadores in which Mexican teams have played, there have always been Mexican teams fighting in the quarterfinals or semifinals. For a while now Mexican clubs have been at a high level," he said. "To me, Mexico would have to go through qualifying in CONMEBOL because it is there where Mexico will elevate its level and there could be much growth there."
