Monterrey 2-1 Cruz Azul: Player Ratings
Goal.com's Luis Bueno ranks the individual performances in Monterrey's 2-1 win over Cruz Azul.
Jose de Jesus Corona 5 - Not a whole lot to do; powerless to stop De Nigris' goal, late goal by Suazo not really his fault.
Rogelio Chavez 5 - Unable to create much going forward.
Julio Cesar Dominguez 5.5 - Quiet performance from young defender. Removed for tactical purposes early in second half.
Melvin Brown 5.5 - Not much to do as Monterrey defended for most of game.
Fausto Pinto 4.5 - Slow to react to Humberto Suazo's move and cross that set up first goal of game.
Gerardo Torrado 5 - Another quite performance from one of Azul's big players; big guns let them down.
Christian Riveros 5 - Non-factor in midfield.
Jaime Lozano 5.5 - Not his usual dominant self; spotty crosses, passes from the usually reliable Lozano.
Cesar Villaluz 6.5 - Villaluz was removed too early; he was Cruz Azul's most active player while he was in there. Early shot off crossbar could have changed outcome.
Mario Ortiz 5.5 - Some opportunities for Ortiz but he could have bone better to create space and hold the ball more.
Emanuel Villa 5 - Quiet performance perhaps fitting for quiet Liguilla for league's leading goal scorer.
Substitutes:
Javier Orozco 5 - Did not add much sustained spark.
Alejandro Castro 7 - Fantastic goal came at opportune time but amounted to nothing as Cruz Azul could not capitalize on momentum.
Emilio Hernandez 4 - Added little to offense as he appeared out of synch from start.
Monterrey
Jonathon Orozco 7 - Cruz Azul tested him, mostly from long distance, and Orozco was up for the challenge.
Severo Meza 6 - Steady performance despite a booking.
Duilio Davino 6.5 - Strong showing for veteran defender.
Jose Maria Basanta 8 - A rock in defense. Nothing got past Basanta.
William Paredes 6 - Another steady performance from another Monterrey defender.
Gerardo Galindo 5 - Spotty play from veteran midfielder. Galindo was involved in two good non-calls but a little more contact from his end could have led to some early trouble.
Luis Perez 6 - Did well to win battles in the middle of the field.
Walter Ayovi 6 - Showed some danger during few times Monterrey went forward.
Sergio Santana 5.5 - Left injured, but relatively quiet before the injury.
Humberto Suazo 8.5 - Much more dangerous than Villa; Suazo set up goal; got his deserved goal late in the match.
Aldo De Nigris 8 - Tremendous finish capped off outstanding individual performance in Liguilla.
Substitutes:
Osvaldo Martinez 6 - Most significant play was his timely and well-placed ball to Suazo for late goal.
