Gerardo Torrado has learned from bad experiences and is now ready to claim what’s his.

“The third times the charm”, is a saying that Cruz Azul will be hoping has some truth behind it. Cruz Azul will be headed to their third final in this 21st century.  Cruz Azul hasn’t had much luck in their past final games. Of course they lost both of them but now they have a crack at another before this decade is over. Gerardo Torrado was there for the past two finals and is confident that history will not repeat itself.

“A lot of players who are on the roster now were on the teams last year and I believe that we've learned from our failures. The team learned from those moments and now we are only focused on being tranquil, to play a good first leg and then become champions in the second leg,” said Gerardo Torrado in a press conference.

Both Cruz Azul and Monterrey come in with good teams, good players and quality managers. Enrique Meza turned Cruz Azul around and Torrado respects Victor Manuel Vucetich’s work with Monterrey.

“They are each excellent managers. I had not had the pleasure of working with (Meza) before in a club and now that I've played under him, he is a very capable person, a great leader,” said Torrado. “With Mr. Vucetich, I have not had the fortune of having him being my manager but I've heard and seen that he is a great manager and a great tactician.”

Although Enrique Meza seems to have a better track record Torrado says, “It's the same. On the field, we're 11 vs. 11 and we need to go at it hard.”

Cruz Azul will not waste their time trying to figure out whose batter at what. Instead one object is in mind and it’s something that Torrado has been hungry for, for years.

“We need to win for everything that has happened. The other two finals are gone and this opportunity is now the most important one and we need to look for that championship.” admitted the highly regarded midfielder.

The first leg of the championship will be played in Monterrey. No one on Cruz Azul, other than Gerardo Torrado, knows how important away victory’s is in these types games are.

“Without a doubt it's a very even series. Monterrey is a team that is well-managed, with a great manager on the bench. It will not be easy but we want to go to Monterrey and play a great game,” stated Torrado.
