Cruz Azul's Meza Heads Home With More Respect For Morelia
Enrique Meza said the series is far from over despite his Cruz Azul side's draw at Morelia on Wednesday.
But Cruz Azul left Estadio Morelos with even more respect than they had going in, manager Enrique Meza said.
"We are going to host Morelia with a lot of resepct because they are a dangerous rival," Meza said in a post-match press conference. "In these games, luck is not laid out in the first 90 minutes and without a doubt the intensity will reach a splendid level."
Morelia took their game to Cruz Azul. Having come off a 3-0 win at home against Santos on Sunday, Morelia were confident in repeating their effort and result.
While their effort was strong, Morelia could not break down Cruz Azul's defense. Meza acknowledged that the hosts had the better of his side in the early going.
"In the first half, I believe they were beating us," Meza said. "Our combinations weren't very good and aside from that we had complications. In the second half I believe the team played better and was more balanced."
Cruz Azul, who hit the crossbar late and nearly pulled out a victory from the match, needs only a draw to advance past Morelia as Cruz Azul had the better regular-season record than Morelia.
But Meza said he would not consider that to be a statistic that gives his team a clear advantage.
"We can't even think that this is over because Morelia play very well, are very quick and are good in the air," Meza said. "The coin is still in mid-air."
