Puebla Vow More Intensity In Second Leg

Intensity was one of Puebla's strong suits in their first-leg draw against Cruz Azul.

When Puebla stepped onto the field against Cruz Azul for the first leg of their quarterfinal series, Cruz Azul were blitzed by a powerful Puebla attack.

Four first-half goals by Puebla resulted in a physical counter by Cruz Azul as la Maquina were whistled for 25 fouls in the match.

Such a physical tactic was not somethign Cruz Azul planned but rather something they were forced to resort to, Puebla midfielder Alejandro Acosta said.

"If that happened, it's because of how we pressured them, the anxiety they showed in trying to get the ball back," Acosta told reporters. "At no time were the fouls product of their system."

Puebla will try and continue their goal-scoring arrage in Mexico City when Puebla visit Estadio Azul. Anything short of a Puebla win will result in Cruz Azul advancing to the semifinal round.

Acosta said he is certain his team repeat their efforts in Estadio Azul.

"We played with intensity and that's how it was on the field," Acosta said. "We're going to play the same way and with the same intensity and if the fouls are repeated, what can we do about it?"

Puebla finished with 26 points and limped into the Liguilla, particularly after dropping a 4-0 result to Cruz Azul on the penultimate week of the season. But after one playoff game, Puebla players said they might have began to change opinions.

"Since we got into the Liguilla, we weren't considered favorites but maybe things will change a bit after how we played last week against Cruz Azul," Acosta said. "To us it wouldn't be (a surprise). Maybe for (the media) it would be."
