Aldo De Nigris Gets More Than Game-Winning Goal
Aldo De Nigris’ goal was more than just a game winner for Monterrey.
“It’s what he would have wanted. He used to call me after every game to congratulate me. He used to follow all my games from over there and I just know that he was with us today” said Aldo de Nigris to Notimex.
The presence was certainly felt. There were fans in the stadium with massive banners of Antonio de Nigris, fans with his name on their shirts, and fans with the infamous number nine. The Monterrey squad also paid their tribute by wearing a shirt that remembered de Nigris during their warm up session.
There was a video that commemorated de Nigris’ life and captured the attention of everyone. Fans watched with tears streaming down their faces and knew at that time that this game was going to be “Tanos”.
“It’s tough what were going through, added Aldo.” We know that he is with God, and that he will be the angel that will take care of all of us.”
Monterrey takes an important lead into the Azteca, place where Antonio de Nigris once played. The atmosphere will no doubt be the same if not more intensified. With both de Negris out on the field again, Monterrey should be able to take care of business and advance to the next round.
