Mexico's Liguilla All But Set
Barring an goal-scoring barrage in Sunday's Santos-America match, the playoff field for the Mexican Apertura 2009 season is all but set.
Following Saturday's game, the picture for the quarterfinal round of the playoffs became much clearer. Toluca claimed the top spot in the overall league table and will play San Luis. Cruz Azul beat Chivas and finished second, and will play Puebla.
The other matchups are likely to be Morelia-Santos and Monterrey-America.
The only way that would not come to fruition would be if Santos beat America by four goals or more. Short of a lopsided rout, Morelia would have home-field advantage over Santos.
America need only a draw to finish ahead of Monterrey and would have home-field advantage in their series against los Rayados. A Santos victory would give the home-field advantage to Monterrey.
The playoffs begin on Nov. 21.
