America's Valenzuela Recognizes Mistakes

Valenzuela is still living with the error committed against Pumas but hopes to put that behind him in the coming games.

Although America has sealed its fate in the Liguilla, the criticism still remains. In the past week America played three games which included a win a tie and a loss. America sealed it on the second to the last Jornada in Mexico with a scrappy 1-0 win over Monterrey. With America's offense the way it is the defense has had to step up in the recent games. Juan Carlos Valenzuela also takes the blames for what's happened recently though.

"I feel good because I won a place in the team. I did a mistake in the game against Pumas where I committed a penalty which resulted in the winning goal for them. I know of the criticism but I don't think we can let everything go to waste just because of one play," said Valenzuela.

"El Topo" is a regular starter for America. Valenzuela and Aquivaldo Mosquera make up the heart of the America defense. They are the ones pulling the strings and when one goes missing the absence is noticeable.

Aquivaldo Mosquera went down with an injury in America’s last game and could well miss out on America's next game. His injury though, should heal in time for the Liguilla. Valenzuela would love nothing more than to have his partner back in time for the Liguilla.

"We've been the ones playing the better half of the tournament so we know each other well," signaled Valenzuela. "Sometimes not seeing a lot of playing time during the tournament gets you out of sync. If I make an error or my teammates make an error then we all hurt the team."

The absence of Mosquera would be felt especially with the magnitude of their next encounter. America will be playing against Santos in the newly built TSM stadium. The feel will be that of a Liguilla game so a victory is important said Valenzuela.

"We see that game against Santos as an important one. I think it will have a Liguilla feel to it because of the situation. They will try to give their fans a win in their newly built stadium," said Valenzuela.

America will have a tough challenge against Santos but will try to spoil the party by beating the stadiums inaugural game within the Mexican league.
