The last fixture on Saturday evening was slated to be the intercity derby between Atlas and Chivas. Each team needed to win in order to keep hopes of qualifying for the Liguilla alive; a draw would leave both of them with a close to their season. The game quickly took off with the first two goals coming the first two minutes of the duel. In the end Chivas were victorious and kept qualification hope for the Liguilla alive by winning 4-1 over their stadium companions.

Chivas wasted no time in opening the scoring. The game had just started when ten seconds in Chivas went up on the score board. Omar Bravo scored in the Clasico Tapatio by winning the ball at the edge of the box and touching it over Damian Barbosa to score the first of the night.

Only a minute later Javier ‘Chicharo’ Hernandez scored the second. In minute two of the game Hernandez received a cross from the edge of the box from Omar Bravo and ‘Chicharo’ easily out jumped and headed the ball past Barbosa to double the lead.

Bravo came close in the eighth minute. The Atlas defense had trouble clearing the ball. 16 left it for ‘Venado’ Medina who sent it to Bravo. Omar Bravo tried to turn and send the ball into the net, but ended up sending it over the goal instead.

Alberto ‘Venado’ Medina received the ball in the 9th minute and went up along against Barbosa. He failed to take advantage of the situation, but could have easily added another goal.

In the 12th minute Atlas cut the lead in half. Daniel Osorno scored a header as Edgar Ivan Pacheco sent in a free kick to the far post. Luis Michel stayed at the far post and no one marked the player who then easily sent in the header.

Aaron Galindo scored the third of the night. After a foul for dangerous play Chivas were awarded to take the indirect free kick in the 23rd minute. Galindo took a powerful shot to the right post. Pacheco was on the line where Galindo had chosen to take the shot, but he did not raise his foot in time to stop the ball from going in.

‘Chicharo’ Hernandez almost added another goal for Chivas in the 38th minute. Ramon Morales had given the ball to ‘Chicharo’ on the left. The Chivas striker arrived at the Atlas area and tried to send the ball to the far post past an outstretched Barbosa, but ended going wide.

Atlas asked for a sanction for a handball in the Chivas box as Aaron Galindo tried to clear the ball. Then at the end of the 40th minute Morales sent in a cross to ‘Chicharo,’ at the right post, who beat his defender in front of goal to put it the ball in for Chivas’ fourth of the night.

Daniel Osorno came close in the 68th minute with a free kick. Osorno took the shot outside the area and came close just sending it over the crossbar to keep the score at 4-1.

In the 80th minute Omar Arellano came close to adding another goal. He went into the Atlas area with narrow space, but Barbosa ended up closing down and preventing the player from having a great angled shot at goal.

‘Pato’ Araujo had an opportunity for Chivas in the 84th minute with a powerful shot from outside the area, but Barbosa was able to get a hand on the ball.

‘Chicharo’ was close to adding the fifth of the night in the 89th minute. Darwin Chavez received the ball in the Atlas half, but made a mistake a let the ball loose. ’Chicharo’ took advantage and ran with the ball bypassing Barbosa who had come out of his net but ended up sending the ball short, hitting the side netting.
