America is currently facing tough times. Las Aguilas have only won 2 out of their last seven games. America is far from the team that presented itself at the beginning of the season. Las Aguilas; however, find themselves just steps away from the Liguilla. America’s captain, Pavel Pardo, knows how close they are and remains confident in their Liguilla berth.
“I have a lot of faith and I haven’t lost it. You always have hard hits in life but you have to get back up. Successful people and successful clubs always get back up after being tripped up,” said Pardo in a press conference.
America still needs to face Monterrey and Santos which are two very difficult teams to defeat. Pardo knows that the outcome of those games will only depend on them and not anyone else inside the field.
“It’s difficult to talk about referees because they are human beings and they are entitled to make mistakes. We have a bad habit here in Mexico of always protesting their calls and being worried about the mistakes they might make. We need to learn from places like Europe but they (the referee’s) also have to learn. We all have to get better for the good of the game. I don’t think the referees are at fault it’s not their fault that we committed errors against Pumas, its ours,” admitted Pardo.
Pardo also made note of other things that could be improved within the Mexican League.
“We have to make a call to the people in the federation because the system is not a good one. I personally think that the best eight teams should make it into the Liguilla. San Luis could get in with 15 points and Pachuca could be out with 23. If we want to make the game better we need to work on those small details,” expressed Pardo.
With the way the system works America will be thinking of only a win against Monterrey and Santos because anything else could be hurtful to their chances.
