Pumas Playing For Pride

Pumas will have to wait till next season to try and earn a Liguilla spot since they are mathematically out. Their opponent America; however, still has very god chances and a win against the felines would raise their stock even further.

Americas Liguilla dream will be defined this week. A double Jornada will be played meaning that America will encounter two opponents in the course of one week. Group 2 could shape dramatically depending n results on these two dates and could potentially leave America out or fighting for the last Liguilla spot.

Pumas will be America’s first opponent on Wednesday and they don’t pretend to give America a free pass.

“In these types of games pride is the most important thing. Our pride is the same we will try to take away the most points possible until the season ends. We will also try to give our fans something to smile about. Defeating America is something that our fans have been for all season,” said Francisco Palencia who has played for 3 of the big four but never for America.

“I would never like to play for them but I do respect their institution. You have to recognize that they are a big team with tradition and with a lot of fans. It’s good to have those types of teams because that produces these types of encounters.  Personally though I wouldn’t like to play there but I do respect them,” said Palencia in a press conference.

America will try to retain their form in the last two games but with tough opposition from pumas and Monterrey anything can happen. The Felines will just try to put on the best show possible to their loyal fans.

The felines hopes ended early this season but like any good rival they don’t want their counterpart to reach the Liguilla. America though seems to have a foot hold but their shaky play hasn’t helped them of late. Pumas will go down swinging and a win against America will not repair their season but it will sure bring confidence for the Clausura.
