Last Goal In Corona Important Moment For Vuoso
Matias Vuoso became the final player ever to score a goal at Estadio Corona, but will that inspire him to become the first-ever goal scorer at Territorio Santos Modelo?
His latest tally, however, is perhaps the most important goal in club history, if not for what it meant during a game but for sentimental reasons.
Vuoso's 66th-minute goal was the final goal in Estadio Corona history as Santos' 1-1 draw against Pumas closed out the venerable facility.
For Vuoso, the goal was one he'll remember.
"It's great to be able to go down in club history and to continue helping your club achieve," Vuoso told El Siglo de Torreon.
Vuoso has been an instrumental figure this season for the club. Though he has just two goals, he has helped maintain the club's attack as one of the more dangerous ones during this campaign, as only two teams - Morelia and Cruz Azul - have scored more goals than Santos.
Moving into Territorio Santos Modelo - or TSM for short - will help Vuoso move his career forward. When it's all said and done, Vuoso said he wants to be a key figure in the club's history.
"I would love to be the player who has played the most games in Santos Laguna's history," Vuoso said.
Through Sunday's match, Vuoso has played 185 regular-season games and is well on his way to becoming one of the club's all-time figures.
Whether he will notch another key moment in club history and score the first-ever goal at the TSM remains to be seen, but Vuoso said that is not necessarily important for him.
"Maybe it will happen, maybe it won't but I don't worry about that. The important thing is that the club qualifies for the Liguilla and that our supporters enjoy the new stadium and its installations."
