America Looking To Silence Critics
Las Aguilas will hope to return back to form against Jaguares.
“I care very little for criticism. I think the important thing is to win because when you don’t win they ask the same questions. Today the important thing is to win and to qualify. You would always like to play well but you can do so much to conduct the team after that it’s up to the players and we also have the rival that we need to think of,” said Ramirez in a press conference.
America has struggled to make goals in their recent encounters. In the past five games America has only been able to find the net three times. Their lack of scoring showed in the Clasico when they could have embarrassed Chivas but failed to do so. Still though Ramirez fells the comments against his team are too harsh considering that they have made great strides since last season.
“We always come out looking for the three points, but sometimes the comments against us are exaggerated,” admitted Ramirez. “We always try to find our rivals goal and try not to let them score. We always come out to look for the best result which is a win and nothing else. Sometimes we play a beautiful game and sometimes we don’t but at the end of the day it’s the win that counts.”
Las Aguilas find themselves in the 2nd slot of group 2 and could take over the first spot given the right results in the weekend. Obviously finishing first in its group has its advantages in the Liguilla as well as earning you a spot in the Copa Libertadores.
“Finishing first is always the objective,” signaled Ramirez. “But our first task is to qualify. However, if we do finish first, that would qualify us to the Libertadores which is a tournament t that interest us.”
Jaguares will be on Americas mind though since they have to face the best visitor in the Azteca on Sunday.
“They are the best visiting team and the teams that play against us always play differently. They will want the three points as well so they are a team that we need to look at and be careful of,” expressed Ramirez.
