Winless Skid Not Troubling For Toluca
Toluca have not won a game in their last three but manager Jose Manuel "Chepo" De La Torre is not exactly hitting the panic button.
But los Diablos Rojos have stumbled a bit of late. Entering Jornada 13, the club had managed just a pair of draws in their previous two encounters, then suffered a tough loss at Estudiantes.
Out of their last nine possible points, Toluca have left seven on the table.
Still, the slump is not something that concerns manager Jose Manuel "Chepo" De La Torre.
"I'm not concerned over the fact that we have not been able to win in our last three games but we should pay attention for said situation in order to work for better results for the rest of the season," De La Torre said in a press conference.
Toluca still have a comfortable position atop Group 1. The club's 26 points are still good for first place in the group, nine points clear of second-place San Luis. And Toluca are still in first place in the overall standings, one point ahead of Morelia, America and Santos.
It's just the recent stumbles that could be cause for concern, and are showing some cracks in Toluca's armor. Toluca were unable to beat San Luis and Tigres, both at home, and settled for 1-1 draws, then fell 2-1 at Estudiantes.
While a three-game winless streak may not exactly seem like cause for concern, the last time Toluca went through such a streak was during the Apertura 2008 season, when Toluca went winless from Jornadas 5 through 9, but the club had four draws in that span.
And Toluca may not have to wait long to snap out of their skid - Toluca host Queretaro on Sunday.
"Fortunately we still find ourselves at the top of the table," De La Torre said. "But we still must concentrate on our work and get back on track for a win agianst Queretaro."
