One Goal Enough For Pachuca
Pachuca would have made mince meat of Indios in the past, but with the way things are going they’ll be happy with a one goal victory.
Pachuca increased their points to 22 and is in a good position to qualify. Indios have lost all hopes and loose another to add to their winless streak.
First Half
Indios were inspired to get things right for once as they came flying out of the gates.
Indios had their first warning shot in the 5th minute. Tomas Campos unloaded from outside the box, the ball took a mean bounce but Miguel Calero was able to get it.
Indios controlled the ball early on and suffocated the Pachuca attack at midfield.
Pachuca finally broke through in the 16th minute. Jose Francisco Torres rocketed a shot towards goal. The ball was placed near Humberto Hernandez as he made the save.
Pachuca slowly gained control of the game in their home turf.
Los Tuzos had another shot on goal, in the 19th minute. Ulises Mendivil headed the ball towards goal after receiving a cross. Mendivil could not get a proper strike as Hernandez made the easy save.
Indios did not get a shot on goal again until the 39th minute. Tomas Campos delivered a good ball into the box where it found the diving header of Edwin Santibañez. Santibañez struck the ball to the far post but Calero was there to make the save.
The half looked to end in a scoreless draw but Pachuca would not have it that way.
Damian Alvarez broke through down the left and sent in a low cross into the box. Mendivil found the ball and pushed it into the net. Pachuca took a 1-0 lead just before the half.
Second Half
Indios once gain jumped out of the gates but this time in search of the tying goal.
First it was Santibañez who sent his shot wide in the 48th minute. Then it was Alain Nkong who also missed wide. Juan Cuberlo had the clearest one of all in the 50th minute when he found himself alone in the box. Cuberlo could not shake off Calero who stopped anything from happening.
Indios once again spelled trouble for Pachuca.
Tomas Campos had a great shot on goal which Calero had to clear to corner to avoid any inconvenience.
Pachuca finally saw light in the 61st minute. Luis Montes tried his luck from outside the box but the shot was handled without a problem by Hernandez.
Christian Gimenez also tried his fortunes, in the 65th minute. El Chaco hit the ball from free kick and it took a dangerous bounce in front of Hernandez. Hernandez kept his composure and sent the ball away for a corner.
Indios responded in the 74th minute with a missed header by Rodrigo Fernandez. Fernandez headed the ball but could not give it direction as it floated over the bar.
Pachuca responded with a shot from Alvarez. Alvarez took a shot at the border of the box; the ball deflected off a defender and just missed the target.
The game began to slow after that and eventually ended in a 1-0 win for Pachuca.
