Chivas Hernandez Stresses Team Unity Ahead Of Clasico
Javier Hernandez said teamwork and unity is the key for Chivas ahead of Sunday's Clasico.
The game isn’t until Sunday, but anticipation has been building up at the Chivas camp. Despite the tragic event that hit the club, the U-17 team was involved in a crash which resulted in the fatality of Dr. Ricardo Herrera, the team’s held together.
“There’s much happiness and more than anything there’s eagerness because we want the game to start, to get the ball rolling. The team is well, always keeping our head up high. The institution has always been united because of all that’s happened, but we’ve keep working up to the game because we know it’s a different type of game that we want to win,” spoke Hernandez to the media after practice at the Verde Valle installations.
Salvador Cabañas has been a long time danger, but according to ‘Chicharo’ the team has to keep all the players at bay not just a specific one.
“I really don’t know. I’m expecting America to be complicated and to mark everyone because we have a great team just as they do. They have a great team, but we’re not going to worry about one or two players but the entire squad. In a Clasico both have the same opportunities. Both teams are there for the same thing. You can come in playing well or not, but there’s always the week before to change many things.”
“They can have the players, but we also have many good players, but it always comes down to the team. We’ve always viewed it that way at Chivas, it’s never about a single player, that’s not our model. It’s always going to be about the team here in Chivas and we’re all going to win, all the 18 or 20 that will be there.”
Owner Jorge Vergara usually reserves his words for times when the team is not performing well, but he offered his encouragement to the team something that Hernandez found motivating.
“It’s uplifting, they’re always motivational words. Whether he speaks or doesn’t speak seeing your president watching you work is motivating and commits you to give more every day.”
The upcoming game would be ‘Chicharo’s’ debut in a Clasico at the Azteca stadium. The prospect is something that the player is looking forward to, as well as the opportunity to score.
“Yes it’s a dream, of course it is(to start the game). It’d be something extra. I dream about finishing the game and celebrating with my teammates. We can win El Clasico and it can be anyone that scores the goal, and I‘d be fortunate to score.”
