Pumas Not Slowing Down In CCL

Despite having most everything go their way in the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League, Pumas are not about to take a day off.

Pumas have had nearly everything go their way thus far in the CONCACAF Champions League.

Using second-string players has not been a hindrance to the club, nor have the fellow teams in Group D as Pumas have piled up a 4-0-1 mark through five games.

Everything is in order, and the club intends to keep it that way.

"We have to play like we've been playing since we started this tournament," Pumas' Ismael Iñiguez said. "We know that youngsters have been given the chance to play and it helps them gain experience, and the results have been positive."

Pumas close out the group stage in Guatemala against Comunicaciones. The Guatemalans need a win to advance to the quarterfinal round after W Connection beat Real España on Wednesday.

Iñiguez said that given what's happened in league, the game in Guatemala serves them well.

"This is a good game and we need to take advantage of it. We know that in league there is no hope of obtaining something important but we can close it out strongly," Iñiguez said. "And I believe that this game against Comunicaciones can help us correct our mistakes and reflect on the tournament."

Pumas reached the quarterfinal round in the 2008-09 season only to draw Cruz Azul, and la Maquina advanced from the series.

Pumas could face a similar fate once the pairings are revealed, but Iñiguez said his team is focused no matter who Pumas draw.

"We're going to take care of first place so the next round won't be so complicated," he said. "We're going to wait and see who the team is, but whomever it is will be well received because we want to come out ahead."
