Pachuca closed out the group stage in style as los Tuzos clinched the Group A title following a 2-0 win over Arabe Unido on Wednesday.

The win also had left the door open for Houston Dynamo to secure a spot in the quarterfinals but Houston lost to Isidro Metapan by 1-0 in El Salvador on Wednesday.

Thus, Pachuca advanced to the quarterfinals on the strength of their 5-1-0 record while Arabe Unido reached the second round as well despite their loss.

Pachuca's Ulises Mendivil did the damage as he scored both goals in the win.

Gerardo Rodriguez sent a ball over the top of Arabe Unido's defense in the 43rd minute and Mendivil ran onto the ball. He beat a pair of defenders and ripped a shot into the back of the net for the only goal Pachuca would need.

Mendivil completed his brace 10 minutes into the second half. Mendivil took a pass from Juan Carlos Rojas and easily put the ball over the goal line from about eight yards out.

The goal was Mendivil's ninth in the CONCACAF Champions League.

Pachuca closed out the match with a convincing defensive effort and walked away with the group stage title.
