America's Pardo: We Have To Win No Matter What
Captain America expressed his desire to win the Clasico against Chivas.
“Players are more prepared today and are more intelligent,” Pardo explained the differences from past Clasicos. “Its true that back then the Clasicos were extraordinary, but that’s not to say that they are not today. Its different times, we live in the present but that’s not to say were not passionate about it. We still run, we give it our all, and the fans always pack the venue. Today it’s all about respect; you have to be respectful of your opponent, maybe not on the field but definitely with your statements,”
The win against Chivas will not only important for bragging rights but also for each others hopes to make into the Liguilla. America has not played well lately and Chivas need to sum up points. The win means more says Pardo and that’s why they will be looking for the three points.
“You always have highs and lows in a season. Our team could be going through a low point right now, but we need to close it out with wins so that we can make into the Liguilla. We need to win this game, we can’t get any other result,” stated Pardo.
America has not been the same high flying team that at one time scored seven past Toluca. Las Aguilas have fallen dramatically in form and many believe it’s due to the absence of Daniel Montenegro. Pardo agrees that “Rolfi’s” absence has been a downturn in America’s fortune but they will have the prized midfielder available for the Clasico.
“His return will be beneficial because he is the link between us and the forwards. He is an intelligent player who leaves it al out there, he’s someone that put’s it all together,” noted the midfielder.
Another player who shared the same characteristics of being the linking man is Cuauhtémoc Blanco. Pardo still remembers his great performances in the Clasico but admits Las Aguilas are stronger now thanks the individual talent in the team.
“He always pulled of great plays in the Clasicos and in the National team, that’s why he’s a different player. I do think however, that we have players who can also be game changers. We have Cabañas, Montenegro, Esqueda, and Reyna who could easily change the face of the game come this Sunday,” Said Pardo.
