Luna Goal Enough For San Luis In Win Over Pumas
Braulio Luna scored the only goal in San Luis' victory over Pumas.
Luna, who abruptly resigned on Monday, was replaced by Miguel Angel Lopez and the club immediately went back to playing strong defense. San Luis had allowed eight goals in their last three games but nabbed a 2-1 win over Atlante a week ago and now have won two consecutive matches.
Braulio Luna had the only goal of the game.
Neither side did much in the first half to open the scoring but San Luis' defense was firm in its task against the visiting Pumas.
San Luis ultimately took advantage of a turnover deep in Pumas' third to break the scoreless deadlock. Israel Castro could not come up with the ball and gave it away to San Luis. Tressor Moreno came up with the ball, fed Alfredo Moreno who knocked it into the penalty area for Jose Reyes, who tried a shot but was unable to get it past a Pumas defender. He got the ball back, left it for Eduardo Coudet, who crossed from the right side of the box to the left post.
Luna rose and headed the ball into the back of the net to give San Luis the only goal they would need.
The win gave San Luis a 4-3-5 record and moved the club into second place in Group 1. With Chivas chasing San Luis close behind, the win also put more pressure on El Rebaño, who play at Santos on Monday.
